Just a short 15 minute drive from Hakuba you will find the quaint Himekawa headwaters, part of the source to Hakuba’s beloved Hime river.

You’ll be bathed in dappled sunlight from the canopy of tall beech trees. Enjoying the warmth of the dispersed sunlight, the cool breeze from the snow-fed mountain stream water will tend to you on your way. Follow the boardwalks gently up and over the trickling tributaries, but do watch your step, as a few planks may be missing.

Take time to enjoy the tree lined walk, pause to admire the wise old shrine and rest at the log carved table. Continue on toward the marshland, a quiet and untouched landscape tucked at the foot of a modest mountain.
Be mindful of your footing here, stepping off the path could mean soggy socks and a startled frog or two! We recommend visiting in the morning, when the temperatures are cooler and the light filters beautifully through the trees. Listen closely for the splashes and gurgles of local amphibians, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of them leaping into the water. Throughout the trail, you’ll also find a variety of seasonal flowers blooming along the way.
This peaceful walk is perfect for those looking to reconnect with nature and experience a side of Hakuba that often goes unnoticed.
